I'm a Mormon
I’m a Mormon
Last summer I had
taken my children to a local park.
Occasionally (usually if I was having a bad hair day) I would wear a
head scarf over my hair. This was one of
those days. There was another mum at the
park who, because of my head scarf and modest skirt, thought I belonged to a
different religious group and was keen to ask me questions about it. I was obviously unable to help her with those
questions. This was not the first time I
had been mistaken as belonging to another church, all on account of my head
scarf.
I reflected on this,
and felt that there might be people who would ask me questions about my
religion if they could see some outward evidence of my belonging to the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
I only ever intended
to make a bag for myself to increase the chance of having missionary
opportunities. I had ever really sewn
before but was going to give it a go.
I had also, during
that same summer watched the Mormon Message titled “God gave us talents”. This Mormon Message encourages us to use our
talents to share the gospel. I didn’t
feel I had discovered or developed any talent that would be useful to sharing
the gospel, so I began to pray that the Lord would help me discover and develop
a talent that I could use to share his wonderful gospel message.
This year I finally
made my I’m a Mormon bag. I was
surprised at how well it came out! Not
perfect, but I felt strongly as I was making it that I was doing what the Lord
wanted me to do. Since then I have continued
to feel the spirits influence, and the encouragement of my family to share the
gospel through sewing.
Each bag has a pocket
designed to carry a missionary copy of the Book of Mormon. I know if you carry a Book of Mormon in your
bag and ask the Lord for a chance to share it with others, the opportunity to
do so will come to you.
Each bag also has a
‘Tree of Life’ tag on it. Remember that
this represents the Love of God.
Heavenly Father loves all his children, we can show our love for him and
his children by sharing our testimony of his Restored, life giving, joy
bringing, hope filled Gospel.
I encourage you to
pray to know what talents the Lord has blessed you with and find a way to use
them to bring the light of the Gospel into the lives of those around you.
All my Love
Sister Chrissy
